1949年7月11日下午，高增岳率领的先遣营秘密进入国军占领区，拉开了西北决战的序幕。他们将在敌后连续行军140华里，炎热、干渴、随时可能出现的敌情，他们踏上的是一段艰难的征程。罗局镇，关中国军守备要点，也是高增岳部队的目的地。面对国军“羊拉屎”阵型的层层布防，他们能否成功穿插到位、夺取目标，将是此次战役成败的关键。在强家沟、罗局镇、眉县火车站构成的渭河以北一段狭长地域上，十余万国军部队拼死突围，企图夺回唯一的逃生道路。高增岳和他的战友们面对四面八方的危险，抵御着数倍于己的敌军。经过反复争夺，双方的焦点集中在了塬上台地高王寺战场上，在连续作战的疲惫与缺乏重武器支持的劣势中，高增岳毅然率部向国军永备工事展开了最后的进攻……
